Robotics Program
Graham Park Robotics is a competition-based extracurricular activity. Students work in small teams to design, build and program a robot using the VEX Robotics platform to compete in tournaments against other middle school teams in a game-based engineering challenge. Students apply at the beginning of the school year and participate in a four-day tryout process.
Robotics is a sport for the mind; it blends applied physics, mathematics, programming, prototyping, design, integrated problem solving, teamwork, and leadership. Successful team members are natural problem solvers, self-motivated, dedicated, thrive under pressure, interested in STEM, practice good time management, and work well with others. Team members are expected to spend a substantial amount of time after school with their team, and on their own at home, gaining the knowledge and skills needed to become experts in their sport and help their team succeed.
Student applications will be available during the first week of school. All applications must be in by August 28th. Tryouts will be held on September 2nd through 5th, from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. Team members will be announced on September 8th and practices begin Tuesday, September 9th. Teams will typically practice on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. Transportation will NOT be available. Please make sure that you can provide your own transportation before applying.
