GPMS Math and Science Program Highlights

What should incoming 6th graders expect?

Most sixth grade students will be placed into 6th Extended math where all of the sixth grade math objectives and ½ of the seventh-grade math objectives will be taught. This will put them on track to take Algebra I in 8th grade and receive high school credit for the course. Some sixth grade students will be placed into 7th Extended math where all of 8th grade math objectives are taught and the 6th and 7th grade math objectives are sprinkled in as foundational pieces to the curriculum. This particular course places students on track to take both Algebra 1 and Geometry in middle school and receive two high school credits. Students who do not qualify for extended math will still be considered for the program. If accepted, they will be clustered into traditional grade level math class and will still be able to participate in field trips and activities marked for program students. Science for all program students will be taught using the grade level objectives, but the curriculum will be enhanced with projects, labs, and, of course, the infamous Science Fair and Invention Convention! Social Studies, Language Arts, Physical Education, Music, and the Arts are also taught to all students.
